My Very Own Carved Stamp

Another drive by well, I actually should have posted this with the last post, bad.  So, last week while I was enjoying the 'kids at school, I'm in the studio time...' I got a call from my friend Michelle.  My, my friend who is a fancy schmancy Bio-Chemistry Scientist...(I cannot tell you what kind...again, my bad),  who just returned from flying around the globe to do her work, engaging  and educating others....Yes, the world.  This particular trip she started in China and then ended in Japan.  Hey, the last time she traveled for work, she went to Mauritius, a country (island) south of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean and other regions there about. For work! Seriously, all that Science has to pay off somehow. Ok, back to China, she was in Shanghai and found a vendor selling......STAMPS! Yes, hand carved stamps in some kind of stone with the most beautiful carving on the outside.  Well, just see for yourself, and it came with an adorable little fabric case. I was so happy to hear her about her journeys and was really thrilled for her. I loved imagining her going to all those exotic places and in hearing about this great experience, but man, when she said 'I got you something' and reached for her bag, I couldn't help myself, I said, "Did you get me a stamp?!"
Yes, she did...I tell you, I can smell stamps. How cool is this?
Well, of course that called for a journal page, even though I have been too busy to journal much. Today was the perfect day for it and I guess that explains why now is the time to post this blog. Thanks Michelle.

Drive By Blogging

******Hello all, I am doing a quick drive by blog today.  I have been busy with many great projects.  But since I haven't blogged in a bit, I thought I would just take a moment and share some raw, art making truth.  Just in case you thought I haven't been doing much.   I am working on a line (actually three) of fabric designs for quilting, I have also been invited to be a guest artist next month on Gingersnap Creations, which I am thrilled about. I am also getting ready to do some serious journal making with some of my hooker friends as well as working on a memory album with another friend for her Dad's 80th birthday. Well, at least having her come over, helped me whip my studio into shape yesterday morning, so I am proud to report that it looks nicely organized now, albeit my desk, yes, is a busy place, so that still looks like this. This is a place that needs to be reorganized soon, but who has time when there are things to make. And finally the Summer Journal.....ahhhh, just saying that gets me ready for summer with the kids.

Well that's it folks. Enjoy the friendly creative wreckage.  I'll be back soon.

Carved Stamp 4

Today, as promised another stamp.  A grunge heart.  In my class we will be learning also how to make grunge stamp designs and images.

This was stamped on glossy cardstock that I had colored with dye ink pads by just smering the ink across the paper.  Stampers know this technique as Direct to Paper.
Then I stamped the grunge heart in chalk inks.  It seemed a bit dull so I photoshoped some more colorful distressed accents.

Carved Stamp 3

Well I didn't carve this stamp today, neither of them, the flower or tile. But it was clear that Cinco de Mayo should be something that reminds us of our wonderful neighbor, Mexico.  I have had so many great trips down there that it seemed an appropriate design.  The tile stamp was purposely, not fully impressed when I stamped the pattern.
I love how it came together. And, I really love stamps...and, carving them.
Thanks and remember, stamping makes the world go round and round

Carved Stamps Day 2

Well, camera issues, more like lighting issues or not, you be the judges.   I created a new card with this sweet folk art bird.  Yes,  that is Kaffe Fassett's fabric, a slight strip.....but I love it. And as I promised.,  another stamp! Day two....  I watercolored a notecard (yes, made from watercolor paper) and attached a stamped image of my bird. Sewing machines make the best adhesives. The bird image is impressed upon a patterned paper.

Stamp carving.......hmmmm. Interested?
